Sailing and Power Boat Training Courses

If you are itching to get out on the water and take control of a boat then you’re going to want to make sure that you have received all of the necessary training. Fortunately you don’t need to go far, you can get your training right here at Ocean Village.

Southampton Water Activities Centre (SWAC)

Southampton Water Activities Centre

Southampton Water Activities Centre

At the Southampton Water Activities Centre they cater for all abilities, from beginners right through to advanced sailors. Their purpose built centre is situated in the heart of Southampton’s historic waterfront area adjacent to Ocean Village Marina. They operate on the lower reaches of the River Itchen, River Test, Southampton Water, River Hamble and Solent.

SWAC is recognised by the Royal Yachting Association for Dinghy Sailing, Powerboating, Shorebased Navigation, Cruising, First Aid, Sea Survival, VHF, Diesel Engine Maintenance and Instructor Training courses. So whatever your requirements they are likely to be able to provide you with an appropriate course. The staff here are experienced, highly qualified and highly motivated. The excellent facilities on offer include heated lecture rooms for shore-based sessions, plenty of changing rooms with hot showers, pleasant lounge facilities to relax in and small class sizes.

A boat at Ocean Village

A boat at Ocean Village is a scheme whereby you effectively buy a timeshare on a class of boats. It sounds like an innovative way of giving people a cost effective way to get out on the water. The class of boats you have access to depends on your membership but can include both sailing and power boats. You purchase a number of sailing days per year and have none of the other costs associated with keeping a boat such as mooring fees and maintenance. According to their website “ membership sailing is the alternative to owning a boat, and offers the affordable way to enjoy regular sailing or power boating”.

So why do I mention them on a page dedicated to training? Because, if you think that may be of interest to you, then they can also offer you the most appropriate training to get you suitably qualified to take control of their boats. Their training course costs may well be lower than might otherwise be the case but of course this is based on an expectation that you will sign up to the boat sharing scheme. Their primary base and home marina is Ocean Village so it couldn’t be more convenient.
