Planning Application Time Extension for Promontory Hotel

Ocean Village HotelBack in January  I mentioned that Ocean Village Resorts Limited had applied for an extension to the existing planning permission (previously granted) to build a hotel within Ocean Village. The hotel would be positioned on the current promontory close to the front of the Harbour Lights Cinema and duck pond. It is primarily a space used today to temporarily store shipping containers.

The original planning permission had lapsed (or was close to lapsing) as the economic downturn had put the plan on hold. The large white “Ocean Car Park” on Ocean Way was built in part to provide parking for the proposed hotel and to allow for the existing open car park in the marina to be removed.

The recent application requested:

Extension of time to implement planning permission reference 08/00693/FUL for erection of a 13 storey building to provide a 224 bedroom hotel with ancillary restaurant, cafe bar, spa, conference facilities and a marina control centre with events piazza adjoining and associated landscaping (Environmental Impact Assessment development).

This has now been approved with conditions. I do not know what the conditions are – if you do then please let me know.

The application for the latest planning information is: 11/00023/TIME and further information can be viewed on the Southampton Council planning website.

You can also find a subset of the planning documents on the Big Issues page.

So what do you think, is this good or bad for Ocean Village, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
